I have no doubt that the story of Hayk Nahapet returning from Babylon to the land of Ararat and leading a rebellion against tyranny is the most fascinating and glorious story of the ancient world.
“According to the calculations of Ghevond Alishan, Hayk defeated Bel-Nebroth in 2492 BC. This was the period when the Semitic tribes had already settled in the southern parts of Mesopotamia, had established the Akkadian state, and were attempting to invade the Armenian Mesopotamia and the Armenian Highlands. During one of these campaigns, according to Armenian legend, Hayk confronted them, leading the united Armenian forces. In the battle, Hayk shot Bel with an arrow and secured the Armenian victory. Regarding Hayk’s actions, it is written in the archive (or main codex) of Akhtamar Monastery that the idea of war and bravery was inspired in him from heaven — ‘that from the heavens, in a dream, Hayk was shown the bow and arrow, which he then fashioned and with which he drove out the enemy.’ The significance of this battle is very great. In this battle, the Armenian-Aryan world triumphed and did not allow foreign — in this case, Semitic — tribes to invade its territories.” - Angela Teryan, from the book “The Most Ancient Armenian Pantheon”
