Having lived in Armenia for nearly ten years now, and having spent half of that time actively engaged in politics, each year I have come to better understand why one of Nzhdeh’s books was titled “The Struggle of Sons Against Fathers,” and why Nzhdeh always placed his hope for the future in the youth. He, like all revolutionary leaders throughout history, understood that the revolutionary spirit is found primarily among the young people of the new generation. This is precisely why the great revolutions in history have been carried out thanks to the youth. Most of the founders of our First Republic were young men under the age of forty, as were the majority of our freedom fighters in the Artsakh Liberation War.
In our country, unfortunately, the Soviet generation possesses an ossified mindset, a timid spirit, and a distorted, servile, and miserable neo-Bolshevik worldview—regardless of how “national” or “patriotic” they may consider themselves. This communist disease has entered their bones, and they are not even aware of it. Of course, there are very few exceptions, as in any matter, but almost all of them fear real change. They would rather choose a familiar traitor from within this old and rotten system than a devoted new figure who stands completely outside of this treacherous system, because the revolutionary fire within them has long been extinguished—if, of course, they ever possessed it at all. That is why they repeat the same mistakes every time, become disappointed, and then scratch their heads wondering why nothing changes.
Therefore, any national political movement—especially in Armenia—that wishes to bring real and radical change by carrying out a national revolution and building a national state must first and foremost mobilize the devoted youth. Otherwise, that movement is doomed to failure. Armenia’s prosperity, development, and strength require a new generation of "Haykazun" Armenians raised with Tseghakron values.
