In the twentieth century, for us—Armenian nationalists—there are three great examples that inspire us and from which we constantly draw lessons. These are the May Heroic Battles against the Ottoman genocidal forces, the resistance of Mountainous Armenia against the Kemal‑Bolshevik marauding bands, and the Artsakh Liberation War against Azerbaijan’s terrorist army. These examples have shown us and the whole world that the Armenian nation is not a submissive people and cannot be. They proved that the Armenian people are ready and able to fight for their freedom and independence against forces greater than them in numbers and resources. They demonstrated that, when necessary, the Armenian nation can become a force to be reckoned with and take control of its own destiny.

This is especially true in the case of the Artsakh Liberation War, because in that struggle our freedom fighters showed that we can not only defeat the foe by fighting, but also, by launching counteroffensives, liberate our historic lands. Thanks to these examples, the hostile myth that the Armenian is “pitiful,” “small,” and “unable to act” was dispelled — but unfortunately the same myths returned following the betrayal carried out by the neo‑Bolsheviks five years ago.

These three contemporary examples form the foundation of our movement, “Hosank.” Our struggle is nourished by the examples of all the brave and martyred heroes who immortalized themselves in those battles. The entire purpose of our movement is, in the twenty‑first century, to revive this same spirit of Armenian struggle that terrifies all our enemies. We must combine the courage of the May Heroic Battles, the determination of Mountainous Armenia’s resistance, and the steadfastness of the Artsakh Liberation War into one unified struggle—continuing the unfinished work of our heroic ancestors—so that future generations may look at us with the pride and reverence with which we look at them. We will be given one final opportunity to forge victories and write a new glorious chapter in our history.
