Arman Tsarukyan, representing Armenia in mixed martial arts, will fight New Zealander Dan Hooker tomorrow, but many Armenians have stopped supporting this man for very objective and justified reasons. Here are a few important facts about this “Armenian” athlete:
On January 18 of this year, in California, he was supposed to fight champion Islam Makhachev for the title, but allegedly due to an injury during training, he canceled his participation, and someone else fought Makhachev in his place. However, thousands of Armenians had spent thousands of dollars on tickets to personally attend the fight and support him, but Tsarukyan neither apologized to them nor tried to compensate his fellow fans in any other way.
Instead, he continues to ask Armenian children for money in exchange for his autographs. In the same month, he also made a video in Georgia where his car passed by one of the simple advertisements from Baku, and when his online followers complained, he did nothing—he didn’t delete the video or edit that part.
A few days ago, an interviewer asked him whether he would prefer to fight in Washington, Moscow, or Yerevan, and he answered without hesitation: Moscow. Let us also not forget that seven years ago he proudly took a photo with "papa" Putin.
It’s not enough that the overwhelming majority of our singers, actors, “intellectuals” and political sellouts are money‑obsessed Russian sycophants—apparently and unfortunately, it seems the same is true for most of our athletes as well. Materialism and Russophilism are diseases that have infected all sectors of our society.
I hope he loses tomorrow’s fight and stops representing Armenia, because he does not even have the right to represent Armenia, not even in his dreams.
