Many people, looking at the last 200–300 years of our history, might think that we Armenians have really had only two choices, giving rise to the following wretched saying: “Either the Russian’s boot or the Turk’s yataghan.” However, this is not only an expression of a pathetic, servile, and defeatist mindset, but also a great lie that does not correspond to reality or the lessons of history, because in reality, no such dilemma exists. This miserable saying, of course, implies that supposedly the only way we can escape the Turk’s yataghan is by remaining beneath the Russian’s boot. But history has shown us precisely the opposite: the more we have placed our hopes in foreign powers, especially the Russians, the more we have suffered and fallen victim to the Turks.
Therefore, our movement seeks to uproot this vile and false saying from among the Armenian people and instill in our national consciousness a truthful and reasonable one: “The more we kiss the Russian’s filthy boot, the closer we come to the Turk’s bloodstained yataghan.” Only by deeply understanding this truth will we arrive at the one logical conclusion: that only by fighting for an independent, united, and Greater Armenia, and by making sacrifices for its sake, can we truly ensure our security and peace.
