General Ter-Grigoryants went to the Armenian consulate in Russia and returned his Armenian passport as an act of protest, effectively renouncing his citizenship of the Republic of Armenia. As he handed over his passport, he said: “What am I supposed to do when people have come to power in Armenia who have betrayed the small remnant of the Armenian people and want to destroy them with the help of the Turks?”

In other words, this neo-Bolshevik general is renouncing his Armenian citizenship on the grounds that the Armenian state has been seized by traitors, yet, hypocritically, he refuses to renounce his Russian citizenship—the citizenship of the very same Russia that not only brought these traitors to power in 2018, but continues to hold our entire political sphere in its death grip, filling it from top to bottom with its own agents and lackeys. The same Russia that poses as our "ally" while continuing to stab Armenia in the back and hand our country over to the Turks piece by piece.

The reality is that the Kremlin has long since corrupted Armenia’s military establishment, political sphere, and Church. Had these institutions not been corrupted and treacherous, Artsakh—liberated through the blood and sacrifice of our freedom fighters—would have been united with the Republic of Armenia in the 1990s, and the Artsakh issue would have been settled once and for all in Armenia’s national interest. It is becoming increasingly clear to me that the people who make up our neo-Bolshevik military and political elite are not merely Russian in their mentality and worldview—they are more Russian than the Russians themselves, merely wrapped in an “Armenian” outer shell.

Nevertheless, when an Armenian renounces his citizenship, he is not protesting against the government; he is betraying the state. The government and the state are two different things. It is like someone renouncing ownership of his own home simply because it has been occupied by a group of uninvited bandits. In such a situation, renouncing Armenian citizenship means abandoning the struggle and turning one’s back on Armenia itself. No matter how temporarily humiliated our state may be today, no matter how diminished its independence may have become, and no matter how treacherous the government of the state may be, by resorting to such acts of renunciation, we are only serving the interests of our enemies.
