When I meet someone new and they ask me what I do...

When I meet someone new and they ask me what I do, I answer: politics. Then they usually ask me which side I am on and who I am against, and I always answer: I am on the Armenian side and against this entire anti-Armenian system. This is the only correct answer for an Armenian nationalist politician. Being only against the current traitorous government is by no means enough, because the overwhelming majority of the parliamentary opposition and the extra-parliamentary opposition are essentially no different from them. This is the bitter reality that many Armenians do not want to accept. People still have false hopes for the so-called “Third Republic,” not realizing that it is merely a post-Soviet semi-independent state, rotten to the roots because it was built on wrong foundations from the very beginning. Many, especially the elderly, have become so hopeless and cynical out of frustration that they can never accept anything new, they can never see past their own noses. It is better for them to cling to a ship rotten from the inside and sinking, than to jump into a new ship that is sailing on the right course.

A truly independent Armenian national politician has no other choice or path but to be a dissenter against this entire anti-national political system. Without any doubt, I am certain that this system is doomed to self-destruction, and that is why I do not waste much energy fighting this system, since it would be like attacking a rotten building that will collapse on its own in a few days. Instead, by saving my energy, I consistently and resolutely try to create something new—preparing for the coming crisis and collapse—so that we can build a completely new state on the ashes of the destroyed old one, which will be the foundation of a future independent, united, and powerful Armenia. Socrates meant exactly this when he said: “The secret of change is to focus all your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new.”

To develop such a strategy requires unbreakable will, farsightedness, and persistence, but these qualities are lacking in the majority of the population, which is why they will never understand this long-term strategy. They do not comprehend such ideas, and therefore can never understand politicians who walk this path, but history has often shown that this path is the only one that truly brought long-lasting and positive results.

Therefore, while many get confused and try impatiently like a child to “get things done” quickly to see results fast, the more reasonable and wise Armenians are obliged to take the more prudent, long, arduous, but also the most honorable path—if we truly want to save our country and not merely engage in self-assertion.

This is the only political strategy and path worthy of an honorable Armenian.
