Before 2020, when Artsakh had been ours for 26 years and our army guaranteed its security, the traitorous neo-Bolsheviks operating in Armenia’s political arena were slowly lowering us from a position of victory—artificially complicating and prolonging the Artsakh question—until they finally led us to a disgraceful defeat. These treasonous figures conducted their so-called “realistic” and “pragmatic” diplomacy, while our enemies in Baku were busy turning their “unrealistic” and “romantic” goal of taking back “Karabakh” into reality. We mocked them and called them “sheep,” but in truth, we were the ones acting like clowns and sheep, because although we were the victorious side, we negotiated as if we had been the defeated ones. And today, the same neo-Bolsheviks in Armenia continue their “realistic” and “pragmatic” anti-Armenian politics, while Azerbaijan continues to “dream” and obsess with fanatical determination—openly speaking and working toward turning the entire Republic of Armenia into “Western Azerbaijan.”
I hope it is now clear that “realism” and “pragmatism” are often synonyms for cowardice and betrayal. History has shown and continues to show that in this merciless world, victory belongs to the “madmen” who have vision, strength, and unbreakable will—not to the cowardly, “realistic” and “pragmatic” weaklings. Thirty-one years ago, the freedom fighters who liberated Artsakh understood this very well—whether consciously or not. That is why they were ready to fight to the end against an enemy that had superior numbers and resources, because they knew that only the mindset of the uncompromising warrior can march over the enemy’s corpses and carve out victory. Many at the time considered them “adventurists” because they dared to challenge not only Baku, but also Moscow—but they couldn’t care less about anyone’s opinions.
Today the overwhelming majority of our people carry a slave-minded and defeatist mentality, because for three decades the traitors intentionally injected this poison into our society. Yet we must remember our freedom fighters and adopt their mindset and approach if we want to overcome the coming challenges and save our independent statehood from final destruction. During their struggle to liberate Artsakh, they naturally were not thinking about “compromises” and “realistic diplomacy.” They were thinking only about how to keep crushing the enemy and advancing without stopping. Those “idealistic,” “mad,” “romantic,” and “fanatic” freedom fighters were convinced that with every village and every position they liberated, they were taking one step closer to the realization of the Greater Armenia dream.
Our movement is not saying anything new. We simply want to revive the mindset of our freedom fighters in the political struggle, because in these fateful days this is not only a necessity—it is our duty, to complete the mission they left unfinished. We preach exactly what they would have preached if they were alive and well today, because there is simply no other path to victory and peace.
And to understand the difference between today’s political prostitutes and the mindset of the martyred freedom fighters, remember the words of Artsakh War hero Ashot “Bekor” Ghulyan: “Artsakh is only the beginning; the end must be Western Armenia…”
